Trip Overview
Chandragiri Hills sit on the south west rim of Kathmandu Valley and rise to about 2,551 meters above sea level offering one of the easiest panoramic Himalayan viewpoints near the capital. From clear vantage points you can see the Kathmandu Valley below and snow capped ranges from Annapurna to Everest on a good day. The site has become a popular half day escape for families couples and independent travellers who want dramatic views without long trekking.
Reaching the top is simple and fast thanks to the Chandragiri Cable Car which climbs roughly 2.4 to 2.5 kilometers from the base to the top station in about nine to twelve minutes. The cable car system uses multiple eight passenger cabins and is designed for steady tourist throughput which makes it ideal for visitors short on time but keen on a memorable view and a relaxed hilltop walk.
At the summit you will find the Bhaleshwor Mahadev temple viewing platforms a modern restaurant and short nature trails that loop through rhododendron and oak forests. Facilities are visitor friendly and the area now supports light hospitality so you can combine cultural sightseeing with a comfortable tea or lunch stop. For planning purposes the base is about 15 to 20 kilometers from central Kathmandu and the drive usually takes under an hour in normal traffic.
